The Datejust ref. 1601 is already a proper classic, but this dial is where things get mischievous. The silver linen finish is not just silver in the boring sense, it has that woven crosshatch texture Rolex used on some vintage dials, so the whole watch shifts with the light like a well-cut old jacket. Then you get the little collector wink at 6 and 9: the wider doorstop markers, which give the dial a slightly odd, slightly graphic look in the best possible way. It keeps the watch clean, but never plain. Add the rebuilt band and you get a vintage Datejust that still has its old soul, just without the usual bracelet drama. A 1601 like this does not try too hard. It just quietly knows it has the better dial.
